Running an extract on hosted Exchequer

Getting the tool onto a remote desktop, and your files back off it.

Is hosted Exchequer a problem?

No. "Hosted" usually means you connect to Exchequer through Remote Desktop (RDP) or Citrix. Under the hood it's still Exchequer, and the Export Tool works the same way. You just run it on the remote desktop instead of your own PC.

The two challenges

  1. Getting the tool on. Remote desktops are often locked down, so you may not be able to download or copy a program onto them.
  2. Getting the files off. Once the extract finishes, the files sit on the remote machine. You'll want them somewhere you control.

How to get the tool on

  • Open the download link in a browser on the remote desktop, if it has internet access
  • Copy the program across through a mapped drive or shared folder, if your host allows it
  • Ask your hosting provider or IT team to place it for you. It's a single file, Exchequer.Export.exe

How to get your files off

  • Save the extract straight to cloud storage your business already uses, such as SharePoint, Teams or Google Drive
  • Zip the export folder and copy it through a mapped drive
  • Ask your host to transfer the folder to you securely

Extracts can include sensitive data such as supplier bank details and addresses. Agree with your IT team where the files will go before you start.

If your hosting is ending

Don't leave it to the last week. Run the demo early to prove the tool works on your host, then take your full extract with time to spare. See Will Exchequer stop working if we stop paying maintenance?
